Update on EEBA and Budgeting

Update on EEBA and Budgeting

Alright. I learned my lesson. I should try something for more than 30 seconds before boasting about it. While EEBA might work for some, it didn’t work for me. I think the reason it didn’t work for me was simple. I couldn’t project into future months easily. I’m a planner. I like to know how much I’m making, and how much I’m spending, and how much I have left over to saveĀ  – for more than 1 month at a time.

I gave EEBA up far before February was over, and now well into March, after a ton of investigation, I came up with 2 options:

1. my own designed/created spreadsheets

2. Software that I recently found called YNAB (You Need A Budget).

The draw to try our YNAB was too strong, so just yesterday, I started. The coolest part is this: It’s cloud based. All you need is dropbox.

What does that mean, you may ask? Let’s say you set up your budget, takes you an hour. You love it. Then, you take your girlfriend & son out for ice cream. Well, instead of saving the receipt, remembering to come home and enter your transaction, you can do it right on your phone. It saves automatically to the cloud, and shows up immediately on all installs of YNAB you have.

So far, this is working for me. I’ll keep you posted.
